About
The Coolangatta Old Boys Association was formed following an incorporated Coolangatta SLSC Old Boys Association association that had lapsed and was deregistered.
We have set up an unincorporated Association which is the simplest form that a “not-for-profit “organisation can take. It is sometimes called a Voluntary Association.
This structure represents a majority of the not-for-profit organisations in Australia.
We are an unincorporated entity, not currently registered for GST nor entitled to receive tax deductions.
We have a Bank account that requires an ABN Number 58472977429 – active since 4-01-2019
The arrangements We have set up are a low risk in that We do not have to do tax returns or other regularity requirements, simply, we do not have legal status and can’t enter into contracts including contracts for supply or employment, therefore cannot be sued.
We are self-funding and do not rely on the Surf Club for support.
It is simply the group itself, of self-minded people who have come together to pursue a common purpose.
Purpose
Maintain contact with all Old Members and friends of Coolangatta SLSC and share the History and the many stories that many agree as the best days of our lives.
Background Logo.
The basis for the Logo design and the photo header for the Website, Facebook and all communication documents was that the Surf Rescue Reel was our first item of Rescue equipment on the first Official Beach Patrol in December 1959 and indeed the essential rescue item for all Surf Lifesaving clubs in that period.
- The Photo represents our fledging club’s first ” Point Danger Branch ” Title with a 3rd placing win for the new Coolangatta SLSC. in the Surf Belt racing event which was the blue ribbon event of the time along with the 6-man R&R team event.
- A picture tells a thousand words and also suggests Teamwork, the very basis of our success in establishing our club and also in all Surf Life-Saving Team events.
- The Photo shows our Belt team wearing the Competition cap of Red, White and Blue Star designed in early 1960. The Norfolk pines in the background are symbolic of Coolangatta. Beach.
- It was considered that the Logo and Photo would be the “Old Boys ” Brand image and should be on all of our communications as a Common Theme!
with a simple slogan – Reliving the 60’s and 70’s and beyond!
Why Did We Join?
- was it to save lives?
- was it to make friends?
- was it to be part of a valued community service/network?
- Was it to be fit and healthy?
- Was it to be part of a tribe?
- Was it to have fun ?
Perhaps all of these, a shared Attitude! a can-do Attitude !!
